Profile of a Resident


During the summer of 2006 a survey was completed by 66% of Sandy Cove residents. The following information summarizes the demographics obtained from our owners. While the information may vary for the entire population of Sandy Cove, this sample is a very significant amount and should be fairly representative.

  • There are fifty owners (two individuals own two units each) of Sandy Cove condos, comprising one house, thirty nine villas, and twelve residences in the mid-rise.
  • 64% of owners purchased their units since 2000, 15% before 1990, and the remaining 21% during the 1990’s.
  • Our owners originally come from Florida (9%), Northeastern U.S. (39%), Midwestern U.S. (25%), Mid Atlantic states (21%) and Southwestern U.S. (6%)
  • 44% of owners spent considerable amounts of money to upgrade their units in the past five years.
  • 45% of owners plan to do a significant upgrade during the next five years.
  • 55% of primary owners are working full time, 15% part-time and 30% are retired.
  • 6% of primary owners are under 45 years of age, 48% are 46 to 55, 15% are 56 to 61, 12% are 62 to 70, and 18% are over 70.
  • For 36% of owners this is a principal residence, for 33% it is a seasonal home, and for 31% it is a combination vacation/rental condo.
  • While 100% of units are occupied at some point during January through May, 78 to 87% of condos receive some usage during all other periods of the year.
  • 46% of the units are occupied for 37 to 52 weeks in a year; 12% for 25 to 36 weeks, and 42% for less than 25 weeks.
  • 70% of owners expect to use their condos more in the next five years.
  • 88% of owners use the beach for relaxing, 84% for observing the sunset, 67% for swimming and 61% for observing wildlife.
  • 57% use the lake for relaxing and 49% for observing wildlife.
  • 79% of owners picked Sandy Cove’s location as one of the top three attributes, followed by the beach (67%), the lake (39%) and quietness (36%).
  • 94% of owners read the Board minutes and 78% read the newsletter to stay informed about Sandy Cove.
Other information obtained in the survey is being used by the Strategic Planning Committee and the Board in deliberations about future plans.
